Key capabilities and network deployments of fine grain OTN

Data dedicated line services are an important field of telecommunication serving industry and is of great strategic significance to the development of carriers. However, with the retirement of SDH network, the transmission of a large number of fine grain data dedicated line services is facing challenges. The fine grain OTN (fgOTN) technology is introduced by ITU-T at the right time and is positioned to serve for sub-1Gbit/s services, with the minimum cross-grain of 10Mbit/s, which can meet the transmission demand of data dedicated line services very well. This paper starts from the background of fgOTN, discusses the standards of fgOTN, key technologies such as service capability and networking capability, and the networking of fgOTN at different network layers.
