Optimising Swarm Grids Towards Supporting Community Loads

Stephen Sheridan, Keith M. Sunderland, Jane Courtney · 2024

Swarm electrification is a rapidly developing solution to energy poverty, that involves building electrical grids from the bottom up. The next big step for swarm grids is to support larger loads. To achieve this, the effects of larger loads on swarm grids must be examined, the grid and location of the load must be optimized, and an evolution strategy must be developed. To this end, a model has been developed to represent a swarm grid based on the current literature. It has been tested and validated, and may be used to help optimize swarm grids to utilize wasted energy for productive use. Finally, a roadmap towards utilizing this tool is discussed.
