Quality of Service and Mobility-Aware Fuzzy-Based Routing Algorithm for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

International journal of intelligent engineering and systems · 2025

Blind flooding is a crucial process in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) that establishes paths from the source to the target nodes. When increasing the Node Density (ND), total broadcast packets are also increased exponentially, causing issues such as broadcast storms, battery discharge on mobile nodes, and reduced network efficiency. The manuscript introduces a new routing algorithm called Mobility-aware Adaptive Fuzzy-based Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector (MAF-AODV) to reduce transmitting broadcast packets based on various Quality of Service (QoS) and stability factors. These factors include bandwidth, queue length, residual energy, mobility, contact probability, Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), ND, and Path Quality (PQ).This algorithm utilizes a Fuzzy Logic (FL) system to select nodes with a maximum chance of contributing to broadcast based on these factors to achieve QoS, stability, and adaptability. It evaluates node quality, ND, and the route that the broadcast packets sent to reach the target node to make informed decisions.Simulation results demonstrate that MAF-AODV achieves the collision rate of 3500, throughput of 120 kbps, average End-to-End Delay (E2D) of 199ms, and average energy consumption of 15.6% for 500 nodes in an area of 1000×1000 m 2 , with a speed of 5 m/s, 10 traffic connections, and a packet size of 500 bytes. These results are better when compared to the existing routing algorithm such as Cross-Layer Adaptive Fuzzy-based AODV (CLAF-AODV).
