Sensor data based city center logistics for transport planning and public service systems
Karol Hrudkay, Kristián Čulík, Alica Kalašová · 2025
Transport planning in urban environments is a complex process, requiring a broad base of reliable data. In addition, the transport sector is undergoing quite significant changes related to its greening and digitalization. Within the Clevernet project (Implementation of innovative sensor networks in cross - border regions), a living urban laboratory has been built, the core of which is a network of traffic sensors deployed in Žilina (Slovakia). The sensors are deployed in the center and form a virtual fence around the center. The sensors were deployed in mid-2021 and have been continuously providing traffic data since then. The paper provides an analysis of the collected data in terms of logistics in the city center for the planning of transport infrastructure and service systems. The subject of the analysis is the time series of the acquired data in terms of traffic flow intensities and speeds while the bottlenecks are identified.
