In various industrial sectors and in our daily lives, the use of IoT (Internet of Things) is rapidly progressing. The communication standards for IoT have been well-known, such as LoRa, Sigfox, Zigbee, BLE, and others that fall under the category of LPWA (Low Power Wide Area). The IEEE standard 802.11ah is a new Wi-Fi standard approved in Japan in September 2022. It has a wide transmission area and can communicate over a range of about 1 km. In this paper, we focus on the features of 802.11ah, which have a wider transmission range than general Wi-Fi, can achieve throughput of several Mbps, and can connect many terminals. We evaluated performance related to throughput in real-world environment using an open-source network performance measurement tool. Our indoor experiments reveal that by tuning image quality suitable for the wireless link capacity, the wireless link has the potential to provide stable connectivity environments even if the IEEE 802.11ah link has intermittency nature on its link.
