Research on IoT-based Elderly Health Monitoring and Smart Home Interconnection Control System

Ting Wang, Jiaan Li · 2024

With the vigorous rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, its integrated application in smart homes and health monitoring has become increasingly prominent. This paper designs and implements an IoT-based health monitoring and smart home linkage system for the elderly, which integrates health monitoring, environmental sensing, data cloud processing, and smart home automation control. The system monitors the elderly's vital health indicators in real-time, such as heart rate/blood oxygen levels (using MAX30102) and body temperature (using MAX30205). At the same time, it collaborates with air quality, temperature, and humidity sensors to ensure the safety and comfort of the indoor environment. All monitoring data is transmitted to the OneNET cloud platform via Wi-Fi, enabling users to instantly view health data and environmental status through a customized mobile app for remote monitoring and management. Furthermore, the system is equipped with a camera that captures images at regular intervals and intelligently identifies emergencies such as falls by the elderly, promptly triggering alerts. Additionally, the system incorporates smart home linkage capabilities, automatically adjusting indoor lighting, temperature, humidity, and other factors based on the elderly's living habits and health conditions, creating a more livable environment. After rigorous testing, the system has demonstrated excellent performance and stability, providing a robust technical support for the elderly's health management and smart home living.
