DEISA is a consortium of leading national supercomputing centres, deploying and operating a persistent production-quality distributed supercomputing environment in Europe, aiming to foster pan-European world-leading computational science research. The DEISA national HPC systems are linked by dedicated networking and an advanced environment for services. The computational scientists access this continental infrastructure via the DEISA Extreme Computing Initiative (DECI) and DEISA'sVirtual Communities. The main objective of DECI is to identify, enable and run a number of ground breaking applications in various fields of science and technology. These applications consist of complex and innovative simulations, impossible to realise without the DEISAInfrastructure. To achieve this objective the DEISA Infrastructure provides a broad spectrum of advanced and integrated services. In this paper we explain in detail the features and implementation of these services.
