Evolutionary Thinking

John Schooneveldt · 2025

Evolution is the focus of this chapter, and in particular, the evolution of the experience of mind through perceived contextual properties. First the chapter considers the evolution of mind as a context creating process. Second, it focuses on the emergence of feelings and its relationship to mind and finally, the chapter deals with decision-making and its relationship to action. Recognizing context as part of evolutionary theory, whether experienced subjectively or observed objectively, dissolves some of the great philosophical controversies such as the role of purpose and free will that has troubled thinking people for time immemorial and still needs a rational way for science to deal with, especially the experience of consciousness.
