Field Test Results for Wireless Access to Wide Area Ubiquitous Network

This paper describes field tests conducted in Tokyo to confirm the feasibility of the target wireless access conditions for NTT's wide area ubiquitous network (WAUN).The results show that the MRC (maximum ratio combining) scheme is completely feasible as a means of providing site diversity reception at the access point by using a digital radio over fiber (DROF) subsystem. In addition, we theoretically evaluated the outage probability of the system using MRC-based site diversity reception. From these results, we conclude that the design targets-a cell radius of 5 km and wireless terminal transmission power of 0 mW outdoors-can be achieved.
