A Blockchain-Based System for Dynamic Redundancy in IoT Communications

Liang Liu, Kazumasa Omote · 2024

The rapid growth and widespread application of Internet of Things (IoT) devices have resulted in a significant in-crease in the demand for data transmission. However, IoT devices often operate in unstable environments and are constrained by their limited computing and communication capabilities, which makes stable and reliable data transmission a major challenge. Due to the diversity and complexity of IoT platforms, existing systems struggle to provide flexible and scalable solutions. To address these issues, we propose a system based on blockchain and smart contracts that enhances data transmission redundancy by integrating external collaborative devices, thereby ensuring both transmission stability and security. The proposed system achieves efficient authentication through the use of certificates and smart contracts, while also promoting the participation of temporary devices through incentive mechanisms. Compared to existing methods, our system not only enhances security but also optimizes resource utilization and reduces operational costs.
