Today, businesses have grown digitally and the culture of new start up is getting patting and funding from the corporates, society and the government. IIoT devices are deployed in industrial environments where physical surveillance and continuous management is not possible. Therefore, the deployed devices can be compromised by unwanted adversaries. In order to reduce these attacks, we propose a novel light weight proof-of-trace (LWPoT) consensus mechanism. Because all verifications are done on the IoT hub node, this reduces computational complexity while adding the block to the blockchain. Since, the consensus is light weight in nature, therefore, its energy footprint for block creation is negligible. This makes the protocol highly effective for low power applications. The LWPoT consensus mechanism was tested under real time industrial environments. It was also observed that the LWPoT blockchain deployment has 15% better speed, 25% better throughput, 16% better energy efficiency, and 8% better packet delivery ratio when compared with other models under the same network conditions
