This chapter addresses the questions that come up first in defining projection design. This describes the overall concepts of what projection design is, including the overall scope of technology used to accomplish the designs. After that, it will explore why projection is used, beyond just because it is the shiny new tool in entertainment. The introduction continues with the design team, which can be more complex than in other disciplines. This includes the role of the designer in the overall production. It then will delve a little into the history of projection design, mainly as a tool for inspiration. Finally, there is a synopsis of what will be included in the remainder of the book – how to accomplish a design.
