New artificial intelligence and machine learning mechanisms have emerged recently that serve to strengthen the security systems of Electric Vehicles. Currently, they are being applied in Intrusion Detection Systems, followed by Secure Communication and Cyber-Physical System Protection. Deep learning mechanisms - particularly neural networks are primarily being used, however methods like support vector machines, decision trees, and random forests can increasingly contribute for security purposes. This review marks the important role of AI/ML in enhancing the safety of EVs, due to its capability in the most effective intrusion detection and its authentication processes as well as prevention of cyberattacks. Because these technologies can identify pattern anomalies in data sets, AI/ML can possibly detect potential security breaches beforehand. One of the most notable trends in recent developments is the integration of blockchain technology with AI/ML, which ensures advantages such as enhanced data integrity, secure communication, and improved threat detection mechanisms. As EVs become more and more connected and autonomous, the demand for advanced, proactive security measures grows exponentially. The connection of EV systems raises the risk factors by leaps and bounds, hence there is a need for AI-based security models to predict and mitigate cyber threats in real time. Future projections indicate that security paradigms will be from a reactive to proactive nature and will be driven by AI-driven models to predict cyberattacks before they occur. It would form a prime step for protection of the vehicle ecosystem, building confidence among the users, and maintaining safety and reliability for EVs. Furthermore, ongoing research and on AI/ML models can further address growing security problems as well as accommodate the speed of this technology revolution happening in the automobile industry. Adopting AI/ML and blockchain technologies can benefit protection of EVs and fortify against new rising threats.
