ICMPv6 is the primary standard considered in the IoMT network because, together with the spread of IPv6, it continues to increase its significance for the network environment and escalate the DoS and DDoS threats posing a considerable risk to the availability of various network services and their functioning. Considering the described IPv6 networks, it can be stated that ICMPv6-based DoS and DDoS attacks are some of the most concerning and difficult to address in terms of identification and prevention. As an efficient solution for DDOS detection and prevention, ML and Blockchain-based techniques have been proposed. The paper explores the use of machine learning and blockchain techniques in detecting ICMPv6- based DoS and DDoS attacks. It highlights the high accuracy achieved by ML techniques like SVM, Random Forest, and ANN in Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS). The technology is resistant to changes and preserves information integrity, making it useful for IoMT networks and healthcare settings. The paper also discusses various studies and methods for identifying DoS and DDoS attacks based on ICMPv6, highlighting limitations and suggesting improvements for future work.
