WSNs together with IoT have become more susceptible to security threats owing to their distributed and resource constraint nature. Maintaining data consistency and strong authentication in these systems is important especially for applications that require low latency. This paper aims to evaluate how blockchain technology can be incorporated to improve security of data in WSN-IoT architecture for better data verification. We discuss existing solutions, identify emerging problems, and present a blockchain-based solution to these problems. Some of our contributions include a comprehensive discussion on the effect of blockchain technology on security parameters including latency, scalability and resource usage. The proposed approach shows that there is a notable enhancement of data quality preservation and security risks minimization in WSN-IoT.
