The Size and Contrast Of Hard‐Copy Symbols

Abstract This paper corrects an erroneous equation given in an earlier paper and provides experimental data on hard‐copy symbols computed with the correct equation. The author argues that Blackwell's data on the visibility of a spot can be used to compute the optimum level of illumination for rooms in which both hard copy and self‐luminous displays must be read.
