Virtual memory management is a fundamental part of advanced operating systems, allowing processes to use more memory than is physically available. This research paper provides an overview of the various virtual memory management techniques operating systems use. The paper begins by explaining paging and segmentation, the two basic methods of mapping virtual memory to physical memory. It then discusses demand paging, which loads pages into physical memory only when needed, and page replacement, which is used when physical memory becomes full. The paper also examines the working set technique, which is applied to choose the pages that should be retained in physical memory, and the problem of thrashing, which occurs when a process spends more time transferring pages in and out of physical memory than executing its instructions. The paper concludes by discussing the importance of virtual memory management in modern operating systems and the need for continued Studies in this field. Overall, this review paper provides a comprehensive overview of virtual memory management techniques and their importance in modern operating systems. It is a valuable resource for computer science students and researchers who seek to understand the intricacies of VMM in operating systems.
