Many academic library makerspaces started with 3D printing and are evolving into next generation technology-rich learning spaces in support of innovation, experiential and social learning, student success, and community partnerships. The article explores the development and sustainability of makerspaces and other technology spaces in academic libraries. It emphasizes long-term planning, collaboration with stakeholders, and securing financial support as key factors for maintaining and expanding these spaces. Examples from various institutions illustrate successful trends in makerspace technology and programming.
