This chapter addresses the question, “Will artificial intelligence (AI) make work life better?” The appearance of AI is likely to bring major economic, social, and political disruptions. It might make human labor obsolete. Is this a good thing? This chapter briefly presents different arguments in favor of those who think that AI might make life worse by displacing billions of workers. Yet, the chapter also presents the view of those who hold that AI will free humans from paid labor. No final answer is offered. The goal is for students to grasp opposing views so they can develop and defend their position.
