Advancement in technology paves the way to virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality, which integrates real-world physical objects with virtual objects. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have immense applications in real-world processes, and it is a boon to mankind for a better understanding of many objects and concepts. Virtual reality is a complete immersion in the artificial environment created using software, while augmented reality maps the virtual phenomena into real-world physical objects. 3D visualization is the key feature of AR/VR technology that gains prominence in different sectors. Positional tracking and visualization are the vital features of AR/VR for 3D visualization and analysis. This chapter focuses on the introduction to AR/VR, highlighting the characteristics, components, and recent research works with applications. The 3D perspective enables AR/VR technology to stand ahead in real-world problems to find the best solutions, and the market for AR/VR technology is also tremendously increasing.
