Diving into Context Clues
Mary Ehrenworth · 2025
The lessons in this chapter aim to increase students’ competencies—both as readers and as writers—with context clues. One way that nonfiction becomes more complex is that writers will use a variety of context clues to explain or illustrate domain vocabulary—and a lot of that vocabulary will be scientific or historical concepts that are complicated. Students will learn to recognize and decipher a variety of subtle and linked context clues to decipher vocabulary and to become adept at accessing more challenging texts. They&s;ll also apply critical lenses to consider word choice and authorial tone.
