This paper proposes a decentralized solution based on a layer-2 blockchain for the allocation of virtualized resources. Our solution encompasses an auction strategy to decide which InP should be responsible for fulfilling a user’s service request. The results of the performance evaluation show that the auction strategy benefits both the user, who can pay a lower price, and the provider that made the lowest bid, who can have more chances to offer a service, in comparison to a market search strategy. In addition, the use of layer-2 achieves promising results in terms of the scalability of the solution when dealing with auctions with up to 400 participants.
