Blockchain is one field in the information security area where the number of papers and patents is growing dramatically. Meanwhile, few experts are familiar with all topics in the blockchain field due to its wide range of applications. Thus, an evidence-based analysis using the number of papers and patents is very effective in understanding the trends in the blockchain field without bias. However, few studies have analyzed the blockchain in both papers and patents. In this study, we analyze the bibliographic information of both papers and patents in the blockchain field using e-CSTI (evidence data platform constructed by Council for Science, Technology and Innovation) and compare them to understand trends in countries around the world and important topics in the blockchain field. Furthermore, by analyzing papers and patents together, we clarify the flow from research to industry or business development in the blockchain field.
