Due to the absence of a central network authority and decentralized communication among mobile hosts, mobile ad hoc networks are susceptible to several security issues. A well-known threat is the black hole attack, in which malicious nodes purposefully trash packets they receive from other nodes. The work aims to determine packet-dropping reasons by monitoring the nodes in communication and then designing the mechanism to mitigate the attack. The proposed work extends the existing secure knowledge algorithm to accurately detect and minimize black hole attacks. The effectiveness of the proposed mechanism performance compared with existing secure knowledge algorithms against black hole attack mitigation in MANETs. Experimental results confirmed the improvement in the network’s overall security.
