Communicating is the only way we can express ourselves or convey information, yet persons with impairments such as the deaf and dumb, struggle to communicate with others. Many deaf and dumb people rely on sign language as their primary form of communication. The goal of the paper is to create a system that uses an ESP32 microcontroller, flex sensors, and a GSM module to interpret sign language movements into speech. The flex sensors detect movements of the hands, which are subsequently processed by the ESP32 to determine the associated sign language gesture. This data will be transformed into spoken output using software. The software may assist individuals who are hard of hearing or deaf by translating sign language into audible speech in real time. It uses a GSM module to send text messages to mobile phones that are far from the individuals. Hence, the proposed system assists the deaf and dumb people by Sign Language to Speech Conversion.
