Error Correction Method for Lightweight Cipher PRINCE based Physically Unclonable Function

Yusuke Nozaki, Shu Takemoto, 雅弥 吉川 · 2024

Lightweight cipher has been attracting attention as a cryptographic technique for internet of things (IoT) devices because it is available with small circuit size, low power consumption, and low latency. Moreover, physically unclonable function (PUF) technology using lightweight cipher, PRINCE cipher based glitch PUF (PG PUF), has been reported as an authentication technique for these devices. On the other hand, it is reported that the output of PUFs fluctuates slightly due to environmental variations, and error correction techniques are required to correct these fluctuations. Therefore, this study proposes an error correction method for PG PUFs. Evaluation experiments using field programmable gate array (FPGA) are conducted to quantitatively demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
