Internet of Things (IoT) systems are connected over the internet through a wired or wireless connection. With the increasing popularity of IoT devices, systems with insufficient security measures are prone to cybersecurity risks and malicious attacks. Without proper security measures, these vulnerable IoT systems are susceptible to network attacks, which can lead to data loss. Thus, it is important to make IoT systems safe and secure. The most prevalent concern in securing IoT devices is the high-profile cybersecurity attacks that make IoT technologies vulnerable. Moreover, security concerns include cloud-related communication security issues since they are usually targeted for stored data and information. IoT devices have been transformed into a part of our everyday lives through internet connectivity. We use them as wearables, set them up in our homes, and even connect them to our vehicles. Despite their usability differences, these IoT devices have one common ground: they are connected via the internet, which can cause various security issues such as threats and attacks. Since IoT devices have significantly helped with everyday tasks, they have become a staple in personal to enterprise use. Users can leverage such devices to their advantage by overcoming security threats and concerns. If threats were diminished, smart devices could be used in healthcare, data analytics, and machine learning. IoT systems could retransform already advanced technology and further enhance them. This paper showcases the challenges in IoT security and proposes solutions for mitigating threats and attacks.
