THE IMPACT OF CYBER SECURITY ON PROTECTION IN THE HOTEL INDUSTRY

Dušan Laković · 2024

Abstract The paper aims to review the basic elements and guidelines for the application of cyber security concerning the increasing intensity of high-tech crime in the hotel industry. It is precisely the rapid growth of ICT in such an intensive activity as tourism, and especially in the hotel industry, that led to special types of protection such as cyber security. The application of ICT produced a series of abuses, which triggered a whole set of designed and coordinated measures to protect all participants from negative phenomena in this integral part of the hospitality industry. Cyberspace is an unsafe place, and knowledge of how ICT works, especially the world's most famous Internet network and the individual mechanisms of communication protocols attracts an increasing number of cybercriminals who exploit their vulnerabilities and carry out criminal activities. The hotel industry, as a part of the entire economic system and global business, is not isolated and follows the modernization trends of other industries, so in addition to the traditional ones, it enables new or complementary digital services where malicious users are constantly finding new ways to compromise security. In the research, the methods of analysis, synthesis, compilation, description and case law are used to adequately understand a complex phenomenon, such as cyber security, and propose courses of action. In this sense, it is necessary to design and manage such digital services, which enable mitigating the consequences of cyber- attacks in terms of breaching data confidentiality, availability and integrity, which is not easy. Key words: cyber security, hotel industry, cyber attacks, cyber protection
