A New Lesson Plan Design and Development Assistant? Using Chat GPT to support pre-service teachers

The promising role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT in education, particularly in teacher preparation programs, is explored in this study.While there are concerns about students over-relying on AI for assignments and potentially hampering their learning of essential knowledge and problem-solving skills, AI can be a beneficial resource when used ethically.The study focuses on pre-service teachers who use ChatGPT for lesson planning, allowing them to draw on examples and frameworks as they develop their own plans while aligning with Texas state standards.Participants completed pre-and post-surveys assessing their confidence in lesson planning, revealing increased confidence levels after utilizing AI support.Though participants entered the assignment with a moderate confidence level, the use of AI significantly alleviated planning stress and improved their overall confidence in various planning domains.This study suggests that AI can effectively augment human intelligence in educational settings.
