A parallel color image encryption algorithm using chaos for colour image encryption

Yinqi Shao · 2024

With the advancement of social media, we create and share massive images daily. Inevitably, lots of images are privacy-sensitive, which are supposed to be shared with a set of targeted receivers only. Image encryption can protect image from being accessed in public, but improving its efficiency is a major challenge. Our work extends this line of research by reducing time of encrypting an RGB image. We take the property of RGB images into account and later propose a new scheme that specifies three channels of red, green, and blue. For a particular encryption scheme, we pick chaotic encryption as our instantiation for providing a lightweight, secure, and practical protection. Our idea is to use a parallel encrypting manner regarding to the three channels, thus reducing the encryption time largely. Specifically, pixels in each channel are processed individually, except for a desirable synchronization between permutation and diffusion. At last, we not only carry out security analyses but also benchmark our performance against counterparts. Both experimental results and analytics confirm the practicality and efficiency of our work.
