A Performance Study on Flash Storage in Android Smartphones

Flash memory, which is their main storage device, has become widely used with the widespread use of smartphones. It has been reported that the performance behavior of flash memory is complex and unstable. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of writing operations to flash memory in Android smartphones and show that the performance deteriorates significantly cyclically. We then propose a dummy write method to avoid performance degradation of the main application, and demonstrate its effectiveness through our performance evaluation.
