A Virtual Machine Management Platform in Computer Science Education

Bianca Alexandra Grama, Ciprian Oprişa · 2024

The hands-on part of computer science education involves a heterogeneous environment, where students use different software, different operating systems or even different hardware for the studied subjects. The traditional approach involves deploying these environments on physical computing machines, such as lab computers or students personal computers. The current paper proposal is to move this deployment in the cloud, enabling higher usability, efficient resource allocation and more control of the learning environment by the teacher. The solution is based on a Virtual Machine Management platform and a web interface that can both be deployed in the university cloud, enabling access to virtually any computer with network access. The tests and experiments performed show that the proposed system is efficient, reliable and secure.
