This paper discusses a technique for adaptively determining the frequencies for a wide-band CW measurement. Usually, spectral measurements are made with either a linear or logarithmic spacing of frequency sample points, and this results in a poorly sampled spectrum if too few points are chosen. An alternative to this approach is to adaptively locate frequency points in the spectrum, based on an a-priori knowledge of the spectrum. In this way, points can be located at the frequencies where the spectrum is largest and provides the greatest contribution to the transient response. This approach has been successfully adapted to calculations of transient responses using analytically defined spectra. The present paper suggests an extension of this concept to the experimental determination of EM spectral responses.
