This research paper delves into the critical issue of data breaches in the digital era, where data has become a vital part of both businesses and individuals. We explored the causes, impacts, and aftermath of data breaches, and then highlighted the significant risks these data breaches pose to individuals, organizations, and society. The paper serves as a comprehensive guide to understanding data breaches and offers insights into building a safer and more secure digital future for all. Data breach occurs when unauthorized individuals gain access to sensitive or confidential information, resulting in its exposure, theft, or misuse. Data breaches are large-scale corporate businesses or individual privacy violations, the significance of these attacks disrupt public trust, compromise sensitive information, and disrupt digital ecosystems around the world. This paper finally examines the ramifications of data breaches, such as financial loss, identity theft, reputational damage, and emotional/psychological distress. We then investigated the fate of stolen data, discussing its use in dark web marketplaces, credential stuffing attacks, identity theft, financial fraud, and reputational damage.
