Neurorights in Immersive Worlds
Amanda Kavner · 2025
The emergence of immersive virtual reality technologies has brought about new challenges in safeguarding cognitive freedom and protecting individuals' neurorights in virtual realms. As governments worldwide prioritize security measures, VR presents itself as a promising component in surveillance and security systems. However, the potential for abuse and violation of individuals' cognitive autonomy raises ethical concerns. This chapter explores the concept of neurorights in immersive worlds and highlights the need for a comprehensive framework to safeguard cognitive freedom in virtual realms. Drawing on existing research and developments in the field, this study examines the use of virtual prototyping simulation tools, serious games, and virtual learning environments as means to enhance cognitive skills.
