The continuous development of Hong Kong and the ongoing decarbonisation of the energy sector pose challenges to the power grid operated by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power). By efficiently performing constraint management on the local network level and the overall system level, CLP Power can avoid inefficient reinforcements. This constraint management shall be achieved in the future by using the currently being deployed system architecture, including the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) and the Customer Distributed Energy Resource Management System (C-DERMS). The ADMS will provide key features including the load and constraint identification in the distribution grid. The direct integration with the C-DERMS allows the subsequent location-based and economically optimised activation of customer-owned resources to provide flexibility for resolving the identified network constraints. The resource dispatch can also be performed across the overall supply area to provide flexibility for system constraint management. Future developments can include the enhancement of the dispatch optimisation algorithm of the C-DERMS and the integration of other customer-owned resources and utility-owned battery storages.
