A Study of the Communication Immunity of Programmable Controllers in Regard to Indirect Electrostatic Discharges

In this paper are described the results from a study of the communication immunity of programmable controllers in regard to indirect electrostatic discharges. The study of the indirect electrostatic discharges is accomplished by means of an imitator and a vertical coupling plane (VCP), complying with the requirements of IEC 801 - 2. The experiments are carried out for different values of the discharge voltage, respectively for contact and air discharges on a VCP.
