Quantum Communication and Cybersecurity: Advancements in Cryptography and Secure Satellite Networks
Murali Krishna Pasupuleti · 2025
Abstract: This chapter explores the transformative impact of quantum communication technologies in addressing modern cybersecurity challenges. It delves into the advancements in quantum cryptography, including quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols such as BB84 and E91, and their ability to provide theoretically unbreakable security by leveraging quantum principles like superposition and entanglement. The chapter highlights the significance of secure satellite networks, with a focus on groundbreaking projects such as China’s Micius satellite and the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI), which are paving the way for global quantum-secure communication. It also examines emerging trends such as the development of the quantum internet, the integration of quantum cryptography into blockchain for quantum-resistant ledgers, and the ethical and legal implications of quantum technologies. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the need for collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to build scalable, secure quantum communication frameworks that can safeguard future digital infrastructures from quantum-powered cyberattacks.
