One hundred years ago astronomy almost exclusively dealt with the Sun, the Moon and the planets. Fifty years ago the main objects of interest became the stars, and thirty years ago, the galaxies. Today the frontiers are being moved outward to a new and intriguing area of investigation, the large scale structure of the Universe.
