Time Series Analysis and Synthetic Data Generation

Raveendra Kumar Rai, C. S. P. Ojha, Vijay Singh · 2025

Applications of various hydroclimatic data require adequate tools for processing the collected data for the improvement of their quality, understanding the underlying phenomena, drawing inferences, extrapolation/projection, and ensuring the data to be representative for hydrologic analyses and designs. To that end, statistical methods and time series analysis are required. Statistical methods used for hydrologic applications were discussed in Chapter 11 . This chapter focuses on time series analysis for characterizing hydroclimatic variables and their variability in space and time. This chapter covers analysis of trend, change point detection, periodicity, normality, stationarity, and fitting of the linear stochastic or time series models.
