Aasia Rehman, Sajid Yousuf Bhat · 2025
The field of medical image analysis is significantly influenced by deep learning, with the swift integration of deep neural networks (DNNs) in computer-aided diagnostic systems leading to a notable decrease in the need for human involvement in health care. Among various applications, the semantic segmentation of medical images stands out as a key area of ongoing research. This procedure entails delineating anatomical structures and other regions of importance, significantly benefiting healthcare by enabling guided interventions, assisting in radiotherapy, and improving radiological diagnostics. The rapid progress of deep learning has placed medical image processing with deep convolutional neural networks at the forefront of research. This chapter offers an overview of deep convolutional neural architecture and explores the applications of DNNs for anatomical segmentation in medical images.
