There is an urgent need for improved security measures in Flying Ad hoc Networks (FANETs) to secure sensitive data transmissions. Moreover, there is a notable absence of surveys in this domain. The existing surveys overlook signcryption solutions uniquely blending privacy and other security measures. This study includes a systematic review of recent advancements in signcryption techniques. This novel cryptographic technique combines encryption and digital signature features, in mitigating security vulnerabilities in FANETs' communication channels. Through a review of recent advancements and a comparative assessment of signcryption solutions, this study provides valuable insights into bolstering the security resilience of FANET networks. By highlighting key findings and future research directions, this review contributes to the ongoing efforts to enhance the security posture of FANETs networks and ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity of transmitted data. The main areas of future study for UAV signcryption should be standardization, empirical validation, resource efficiency, quantum resistance, and innovative authentication methods.
