A Mobile Robot Guiding Multiple Pedestrians by Projecting a Moving Area

In recent years, mobility service robots, such as those performing delivery tasks, have been proliferating in society. When both humans and robots coexist in society, it has been reported that not only considering robot motion control to avoid collisions with humans is important, but also indicating the robot's future behavior to surrounding individuals is crucial. In conventional research, presenting the robot's trajectory during encounters with a single pedestrian has been emphasized as crucial information presentation. However, in cases involving multiple pedestrians, merely presenting the robot's trajectory may be insufficient. Therefore, we conducted a human subject experiment by presenting both the robot's trajectory and guiding information for pedestrians during encounters with multiple pedestrians. As a result, the subjective evaluation of pedestrians during encounters showed better results than the conventional method.
