The Development and Validation of a New Technique to Compare Complex Data Sets.
Dawn Coleby, Alistair Duffy · 2003
The task of comparing complex data sets for validation or repeatability purposes, is a difficult task. To date, comparisons are mostly made by visually comparing two data sets. Validation of the data is crudely determined by how similar the two data sets are to the naked eye. This method of data validation has obvious flaws, one of which being the inconsistency between comparisons made by each analyst. Another issue is the difficulty in reporting the level of similarity, objectively. The paper introduces a new technique, with the aim to assist the visual comparison of data sets and to produce a single overall value of similarity based on a modification of the Cooper-Harper rating scale.
