Correlation Between the Measurement of a Board-to-Board Coaxial Connector Using the Absorbing Clamp or a TEM-Cell and Simulation in the Time Domain

A board-to-board coaxial connector is a type of connector that is not described within any standard. This document describes two methods for effectively defining the electromagnetic performance of a board-to-board coaxial connector. Both methods are well suited for small objects and the set-up can be placed in tiny places. The first method is the absorbing clamp method. This standard method is adopted in order to characterize the board-to-board connector. This method is very easy to build up and can be verified very easy with a time domain simulator. The second method is the TEM cell. This is a totally closed set-up and is very suited to measure small objects such as connectors. Due to the simple description of this model, a time domain simulation can help you to predict the results. The correlation between both measurement methods and the simulations are remarkable. Simulation is a very accurate tool to design to product in a very short time without prototyping and without frequency limitations.
