Microwave ovens are potential interference sources to Bluetooth system. In this paper, the performance of Bluetooth system interfered by oven noises is analyzed employing a newly developed oven noise model, which is represented by periodic tone-bursts with frequency fluctuation. Based on the specifications of Bluetooth system, BER (bit error rate) of GFSK (Gaussian Frequency Shift Keying) scheme is theoretically evaluated. BER measurements are also carried out using actual ovens and an oven noise simulator. The results show that BER characteristics strongly depend on channel frequency of the Bluetooth link and spectrum of oven noise. The effect of frequency hopping scheme on BER characteristics is also evaluated.
