The degrading effects of highly reflecting environments on the received field strength and the data throughput of WLAN and Bluetooth has been investigated via simulation and measurements. Due to multipath reflections inside highly reflecting environments the signals have different phases at the receiver. The sum of these signals, as seen by the receiver, has a higher intensity but is spreaded in time, resulting in intersymbol interference. The propagation range is larger due to the increased received field strength, but the data throughput is lower due to the intersymbol interference.
