A system has been developed for classifying a wide variety of radioactive source capsules according to their containment integrity and their intended use and use envi ronment.The system consists of a Source Application Guide and of a revised Source Capsule Classification System.The Application Guide establishes a suggested capsule classifi cation by evaluating the key containment factors involved in source usage and relating them to the containment reli ability of the capsule as expressed by the Classification System.The test procedures required with the Classification System and a few examples of how to use the Application Guide are given as appendices.
