With the increasing complexity and operational requirements of power systems, the problem of fault location in resonant grounding systems has become increasingly important. This paper proposes a fault section location method based on multivariate variational mode decomposition (MVMD) combined with Teager Kaiser Energy Operator (TKEO) and time difference. Specifically, firstly, the line mode component of the fault three-phase voltage signal is extracted through phase mode transformation, and the highest frequency feature signal is extracted using the MVMD method to reduce noise interference and preserve critical fault information. Then, perform the TKEO operation on the highest frequency intrinsic modal component to obtain the arrival time of the fault wavefront, calculate the time difference, and finally use the fault time difference and the reference time difference to construct a criterion for fault section location. In a 10kV resonant grounding system, different types of fault conditions were tested, and simulation results showed that this method has good adaptability in complex power systems, providing a reliable solution for rapid fault location in resonant grounding systems.
