UML Extended Notations for Variability Modelling

2024

Variability modelling is a specific domain that requires specific modelling notations.Unfortunately these notations are not explicitly provided in well known standards of modelling languages such as the Unified Modelling Language (UML).To address this limitation, we propose a set of UML extended notations as a new UML profile destined for modelling all aspects of variability in software development process. The proposed profile is defined by a package of specific profiles that extend the UML standard notations of four diagrams (class diagram, use case diagram, sequence diagram and activity diagram). To be able to model the variability requirements by adequate graphic representation we provide some extension mechanisms such as stereotypes, constraints and tagged values according to the chosen diagrams.
